What the ADJ 5PX/12PX says about itself over RDM, captured from one unit with RDMBench, and what the model is known to get wrong. It is profiles/adj/5px-12px.json in rdmbench-pids, the public fixture library a bench downloads with its PID tables.
A profile is true of the firmware it was captured from: personalities and sensors change between versions. On the bench, the fixture’s own answers always win.
Source: Captured by RDMBench 0.1.0 from the fixture’s own DEVICE_INFO / DMX_PERSONALITY_DESCRIPTION / SENSOR_DEFINITION: 5PX/12PX, software V1.22, unit 1900:88B261B3, 2026-09-22
Known quirks
Identify is inverted
It shows itself when IDENTIFY_DEVICE is off and rests when it is on. It reports back the flag it was given, exactly as a conformant unit would, so nothing on the wire shows it: only a person watching the fixture could have found it. RDMBench’s report says so, and reads the unit’s identify state the right way round.
Source: Observed on the RDMBench bench on 2026-09-21, unit 1900:88B261B3 on firmware V1.22. Method: DMX State set to bLC so that with no DMX on the line the resting state is unambiguously dark, then IDENTIFY_DEVICE toggled with nothing else on the line — 1 (identify on) leaves the unit fully dark, 0 (identify off) makes it blink. Both directions, repeated. The unit also powers up in the state it reports as identifying. Write-up: docs/bench.md in the rdmbench repo.
DMX personalities
| Personality | Name | Footprint | From the library |
|---|---|---|---|
| 1 | CH6 | 6 channels | Channel layout |
| 2 | CH7 | 7 channels | Channel layout |
| 3 | CH8 | 8 channels | Channel layout |
| 4 | CH12 | 12 channels | Channel layout, load plan |
A channel layout says what each channel does, written down from the manual for a fixture that reports no slot table of its own. RDMBench names the channels with it in Send DMX and the channel walk. A load plan names the channels the load test must hold at a level of their own, because full on them is not full output.

The 6, 7 and 8 channel modes are the first 6, 7 and 8 channels of the 12 channel one, as the manual’s table lays them out.
Rest levels: The RDMBench bench’s own choice, not the manual’s, which gives ranges and no defaults. Every emitter at 0, the master dimmer at full, the strobe on LED On (255) and channels 9-12 at 0 (macro Off, programs No Function, speed 0, Standard dimmer mode — the levels the load plan holds them at): a unit that is ready and dark, lit by raising one colour. Confirmed on 2026-10-01, unit 1900:88B261B3 on firmware V1.22 in 12CH: red, master dimmer and strobe at 255 with nothing else sent lit it solid red (checked by eye). Channel walk levels: The RDMBench bench’s own choice, not the manual’s. With every emitter at its start (0), the master dimmer and the strobe change light no other channel is making, so a channel walk showed nothing on either and a tech failed healthy channels (2026-10-03, unit 1900:88B261B3 on firmware V1.22 in 12CH; docs/bench.md in the rdmbench repo, ‘The channel walk on the 5PX’). So each is walked with white at full: the brightest single emitter and the easiest light to judge a dim or a strobe against.

Rested in the channel walk: Found on the RDMBench bench, 2026-10-05, unit 1900:88B261B3 on firmware V1.22 in 12CH: with White 255, Master Dimmer 64 and Strobe on LED On held, Dimmer Modes at 30 (Stage), 50 (TV), 70 (Architectural) and 90 (Theatre), each 12 s with 0 (Standard) between, all looked the same as Standard, watched by eye; the same was seen on two walks with White at 64 on 2026-10-03. Most likely the modes change how a level fades, which no held level shows — not yet confirmed. Write-up: docs/bench.md in the rdmbench repo, ‘Dimmer Modes by eye’.
Load test
| Channel | Held at | Why |
|---|---|---|
| 9 (Color Macro) | 0 | Colour Macro: 253-255 is Color64, UV only; the chart gives every macro all six emitters, UV included, so a macro overrides channels 1-5 and likely 6 |
| 10 (Programs) | 0 | Programs: 0-20 is No Function; 21-140 run colour-change and sound-active programs |
| 12 (Dimmer Modes) | 0 | Dimmer Modes: 0-20 is Standard; 101-255 defers to the unit’s own setting |
Source: ADJ 5PX Hex / 5PX Hex Pearl User Manual, p.11 (DMX Traits & Values, 12CH) and pp.12-13 (Color Macro Chart). Confirmed on the RDMBench bench on 2026-09-22, unit 1900:88B261B3 on firmware V1.22: every slot at 255 for 150 s lit the unit UV only (checked by eye) and moved its temperature 25 -> 26 C; the same hold with channels 9, 10 and 12 at 0 lit all six emitters and moved it 25 -> 29 C.
